Indrek Sirp will take up the position of Director of the National Security and Defence Coordination of the Government Office, as of 26 July.
Indrek Sirp is currently serving as Defence Policy Advisor and Defence Attaché at the Estonian Embassy in Washington.
Indrek Sirp joined the Ministry of Defence in 2001 as a bilateral relations officer of the International Co-operation Department. From 2005-2008, Mr Sirp worked as the Head of the Outreach and Baltic Co-operation Section, where he was responsible for managing the Estonian side of Baltic defence co-operation projects like the Baltic Defence College, the Baltic air-policing mission, the Baltic Battalion, as well as a number of other projects.
From 2010-2013, Indrek Sirp worked as the Director of the International Co-operation Department of the Ministry of Defence. His responsibilities included planning and implementing international defence cooperation. From 2012-2013, Indrek Sirp was also a member of the Steering Committee of the NATO Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence. From 2013-2014, Mr Sirp worked as the Rail Baltic project manager at the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications.
Indrek Sirp graduated from the University of Tartu, Faculty of Philosophy, Department of History, and holds a Master’s Degree in International History and Politics from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva.
The current Director of the National Security and Defence Coordination, Kristjan Prikk, will take up the position of Undersecretary for Defence Policy at the Ministry of Defence as of 10 July.
The National Security and Defence Coordination Unit of the Government Office advises the Prime Minister on national security and defence matters, organises the affairs of the Security Committee of the Government of the Republic and coordinates the management of national security and defence.
