Innovation Projects

Public sector innovation projects are funded through the Innovation Fund and the Innovation Programme. During the current EU funding period, the Innovation Fund supports projects that seek solutions for implementing the changes identified in the Estonia 2035 strategy by applying new knowledge and technologies. The Innovation Programme is an approximately eight-month design-thinking-based programme for developing public services. Since 2019, four Innovation Programmes have been carried out, involving a total of 26 projects.

    The average age of map data is 10 years, meaning that maps do not accurately reflect rapidly changing features. At the same time, users’ needs are increasingly real-time and continue to grow each year. A significant share of map data remains outdated every year because there are not enough mapping specialists available on the labour market. Increasing the number of specialists is not a sustainable solution. Smarter approaches are therefore needed to reduce the amount of manual work.
