2.9.5. Diagnostic Tests Close to Home
How can we ensure that patients do not have to travel to their treating physician’s location solely to provide samples for diagnostic testing?
The Health Insurance Fund, the Health and Welfare Information Systems Centre, the Ministry of Social Affairs, the Estonian Society for Laboratory Medicine and the Estonian Hospitals Association worked together to find solutions to the problem.
As part of the project, 25 interviews were conducted, along with observations in laboratories and hospitals and interviews with patients and doctors.
The key insight was that people are willing to provide samples at locations closer to their homes. However, enabling this requires overcoming several information technology barriers while continuing to meet all quality requirements for sample collection and handling.
Project duration: 2022
The project was implemented as part of the Innovation Programme.
