Innovation Projects

The aim of the project was to make the cancer patient care pathway smoother and more integrated, while identifying ways to help patients cope better with the disease.

Solutions were developed that are now being piloted in several Estonian hospitals. These include the role of a nurse coordinator to reduce the burden on patients and their families, as well as digital solutions to improve patients’ understanding of and adherence to treatment and to reduce hospital admissions and visits to emergency departments.

As a result of the patient-centred care pathway design project, patient experience mapping has gained wider recognition in Estonian healthcare as a key tool for designing services.

The project was led by the Government Office and initiated by the North Estonia Medical Centre, with the participation of the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Estonian Health Insurance Fund.
