Innovation Projects

Public sector innovation projects are funded through the Innovation Fund and the Innovation Programme. During the current EU funding period, the Innovation Fund supports projects that seek solutions for implementing the changes identified in the Estonia 2035 strategy by applying new knowledge and technologies. The Innovation Programme is an approximately eight-month design-thinking-based programme for developing public services. Since 2019, four Innovation Programmes have been carried out, involving a total of 26 projects.

    1.6.1. Secure Cross-Sector Data Use

    Estonia’s data economy has considerable potential, but its development is hindered by a lack of sufficiently secure and flexible solutions that would enable data to be reused effectively across sectors. Close cooperation between the public and private sectors is needed to develop innovative solutions for the active, secure and transparent use of data.

    The project team aims to develop a methodological, technical and legal framework that enables secure data sharing across sectors, supports the development of the data economy, and reduces the amount of data currently collected. The project results would help both the public and private sectors create better data-driven services.
